Testing
The testing responsibility of the School Counseling department includes conducting and facilitating student testing which is required for graduation, college entrance and the military services, as well as assessing achievement and proficiency. Tests administered include:
- Advanced Placement Tests (AP)
- Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
- Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT)
- Scholastic Assessment Tests
Note: Alexandria City High School is not a weekend testing site for ACT or SAT.
Standardized testing is managed through the ACPS Department of Accountability. Please see the ACPS assessment calendar and Virginia Department of Education Standards of Learning (SOL) resource page for details.
Fall PSAT/SAT & Spring SAT
Fall PSAT/SAT In-School testing day (in October): students in grades 9 and 10 will be automatically registered for the PSAT. Students in grade 11 who want to take the PSAT/NMSQT and students in grade 12 who want to take the SAT must register themselves by September 4. The registration information will be shared via Canvas and ParentSquare announcements in August.
Spring SAT In-School testing day (in April): students in grade 11 will be automatically registered to take the SAT.
Advanced Placement Exams
Students must register in AP Classroom no later than November 1 for each of their AP classes. Registering for each AP class in AP Classroom also registers the student for the AP Exam connected to that class. Students who register after November 1 will incur a $40 late test order fee. Students who are registered to take an AP Exam, but do not show up to take that exam, will incur a $40 unused test fee. While ACHS pays for student AP Exams, the school will not pay for late ordering fees or unused test fees. Students will receive a charge for these fees at the end of the AP testing window in May.
Regular testing information will be sent out through Canvas and ParentSquare Announcements
